Getting to know Dan

The scope for broadening your career is excellent

The scope for broadening your career is excellent

Dan is a Technology Proposition Lead within the Employer Services team at Premier, and has been with the company for eight and a half years.

Dan lets us in on what his day to day role involves, why he chose to work for Premier, his ultimate dinner party guests and New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro!

What does your job at Premier involve?

I am “Technology Proposition Lead” within the Employer Services team of Premier Benefits Services. I am responsible for the implementation and ongoing administration services for our technology-based Employer systems, such as Gateway2Benefits (flexible benefits portals), Gateway2Retirement and Your Pension sites (pension education sites), Pension Tax Planning calculator sites, Gateway2Wellbeing portals and Premier Auto-enrolment Manager (PAM) software.

I also manage a team of two benefit analysts, a systems analyst and a benefits administrator. I am also sometimes instrumental as part of the new business team when we are taking on new flexible benefits clients. I tend to field the “can your system do this?” types of questions from prospects. My usual response is “of course”, with a knowing smile thrown in for good measure.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

Building relationships with clients as part of the implementation process. As the team who implement the portals are the team who provide the ongoing administration of the portals, I feel that developing trust with the client is pivotal in keeping them happy. It also helps to have that good relationship so that if something does go wrong, you can more often than not fix the problem without it damaging the relationship too much.

What’s the best thing about working for Premier?

You don’t have to be fixed in one particular role. You can if you so wish, but the scope for broadening your career and aspirations is excellent. I started 8.5 years ago at Premier as a Consultant supporting a Senior Consultant so my role has developed amazingly. My director Martin has helped me play to my strengths and interests since day one.

Why did you choose to work for Premier?

I knew from former colleagues who were now at Premier, that it was a great place to work and I was having an unhappy experience at a company where I felt very much a square peg in a round hole. I had interviewed with Martin a good 12-18 months beforehand so I think when Martin found a vacancy had arisen whereby my systems skills would come in useful (PAM), he knew I was the right person for the job.

What’s your biggest achievement in life?

Keeping my kids alive to the age of 13 (so far!)

Who would be your ultimate 3 dinner party guests?

Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder and Layne Staley. I’d just want them to sing for me all evening and I’d join in with the harmonies.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Performing in my covers band!

What’s the best place you’ve ever visited?

Rio de Janeiro – I spent New Year’s Eve 2004 on Copacabana Beach with my wife and saw the New Year in style drinking Caipirinhas and coconuts. I also visited the Maracana stadium and stood in Pele’s footprints, climbed Pao De Azucar (Sugar loaf mountain) with the help of a cable car, and stood underneath Cristo Redentor. Pretty amazing all in all!
